Peter Lyssiotis (born in Cyprus in 1949, lived in Australia since 1953) is a photomonteur; film maker; writer; photographer and book artist. He has exhibited widely in both solo and group shows. His work is in private collections, State Libraries and State Galleries throughout Australia. His work has also been collected in France, Switzerland, England and the Netherlands. His small press books include Journey of a Wise Electron and Other Stories; Three Cheers for Civilization; the Bird The Bell Tower; The Harbour Breathes (with Anna Couani); Industrial Woman (with Jas Duke and Vivienne Mehes.) His limited edition artist’s books (livres d’ artiste)include The Harmed Circle;….From The Secret Life of Statues; The Products of Wealth; Feather and Prey; Desire and The Brush; The Ifs of Language,7 Disrupted Interviews with History. He has collaborated with other artists on the following books: The Look of Love (with Scott McQuire); 1316(with Angela Cavalieri); Homeland(with Noga Mizrahi) Paris (with Leon van Schiak) If His Voice Be True (with Anne Twigg); Seven Rooms(with Monica Oppen) His Wayward Hand; Journey;(with George Matoulas)The Use Of Ashes(with Theo Strasser); Using Shadows(with Theo Strasser and Robert Colvin);Mnemopolis(with Alex Selenitsch). His film work The Occupant (with Michael Karis and Ettore Siracussa), the video Thug (with Christos Tsiolkas and Spiro Economopoulos); the dvd The Ifs of Language (with Michael Karis) have been screened extensively.

His latest work A Gardener At Midnight; Travels In The Holy Land has been widely exhibited and filmed by the Australian Broadcasting Commission as a two part documentary (2006). Whenever in doubt, Lyssiotis returns to John Heartfield’s dictum: “Use photography as a weapon”.
