Title: Transit, 2007
Video 2’50”
url: marialianou.com
A dissenting fetus with disability, the character in the video, faces survival issues. Photographed in its rigid pose within a glass container full of formaldehyde, it presents itself as an exhibit.
The tension created suggests desperate efforts to pass through and against itself, through both flesh and social tissue in the attempt to overcome the social lethargy and anaesthesia it experiences. A metaphor for Cyprus, a land which finds itself in a disabled situation objecting to Fate and Fury, a non-integral situation with Janus like features objecting to Self and the Other.
