Title: Hey Hetero

Some of us have parents who do not feel secure to claim us as their children in public.
Our own families do not cast shadows: we have no legal existence.
We are afraid to meet our partners’ parents.
It is dangerous for us to be too recognisable for what we are.
Our affection makes some people want to attack us.
Some of us are forced to live in hiding, even in plain view.

We are internally displaced as queers in an increasingly homophobic and misogynist country.

Please note that in NO WAY do we claim to be in the kinds of dangers faced by people who must flee tyranny, hunger, torture.

Here, official and increasing defence of heterosexual privilege renders us more silent, and less present in civil discourse.

As religious zealots hold more and more sway over government, our full humanity is publicly and repeatedly questioned.

Our work, while burning with rage, attempts to make light of this.

About IMCA

IMCA is both a virtual and itinerant Independent Museum of Contemporary Art founded by NeMe in order to present exhibitions, performances, new media events, symposia etc. The form of the IMCA is determined as a practice or process by the nature of each project with the notion of the exhibition "space" being constantly revised and redefined.
