Title: Further than Everything
I have lived in downtown Toronto, a multilingual, left thinking, social democracy for the last 25 years, the move to a small american town, Eugene, Oregon presented ….
- extreme difference in political systems
- narrow minded, conservative, right wing religious sensibilities
- a completely different mindset than a larger urban center
- racism
- less than 1% of the population is black and less than 5% of the population is latino
- the Ku Klux Klan was openly active here until the late 60’s
I accepted a teaching position at a west coast university (University of Oregon) in the small town of Eugene, Oregon to teach in the digital art dept
This is a photograph of my neon work exhibited on the exterior of Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art jan – apr, 2006. 4 × 10 feet
This work is a direct response to my feelings of displacement in this small american town.
